What Is a Routing Number?

A routing number is your bank’s nine-digit identification number. As you can see from the reference table above, some banks have more than one routing number. A routing number is needed when you’re exchanging money between accounts to identify your bank. You’ll need a routing number for:

  • Setting up a direct deposit with your employer;
  • As a check alternative to send another bank account payment via wire transfer or electronic funds transfer (EFT);
  • To set up an electronic funds withdrawal to pay your property or income taxes, for example.

Besides using the Santander Bank routing number reference table above, the easiest way to find your routing number is by looking at a personal check. The first nine digits on the lower left-hand side of a personal check below the area you’d fill in the memo is your Santander routing number. If you don’t have checks handy, you can always call Santander Bank customer service at (877) 768-2265 for your routing number, or refer to their website.
