In addition to 7-Eleven check cashing, many 7-Eleven stores offer a variety of other financial services. In most stores, you can also obtain gift cards, use a 7-Eleven fuel card, get money orders, or order prepaid cards. 7-Eleven stores are some of the best places to cash checks because there are over 8,000 convenient U.S. store locations and many offer 24/7 kiosks to complete the check-cashing process.

Does 7-Eleven Cash Checks?

7-Eleven check cashing is not available through the convenience store itself, but this service is facilitated through the Transact card. 7-Eleven partners with Transact to offer check cashing services at many of its stores, but, keep in mind, some stores don’t offer this service.

To cash your check at 7-Eleven, you must first get the pre-paid, reloadable Transact card. With this card, you can cash checks and the balance is loaded onto the card, where it can be withdrawn from a 7-Eleven ATM or used as a debit card. It’s also linked to your own account, so you can use it for direct deposit. You can check your card’s balance at any time through your online account or mobile app.

What Types of Checks Will 7-Eleven Cash?

7-Eleven check cashing locations only take certain types of checks, including:

  • Government benefits checks.
  • Payroll checks.
  • Insurance settlement checks.
  • Cashier’s checks.
  • Tax refund checks.
  • Money orders.

However, these kiosks will not accept personal checks. Restrictions on the maximum amount that can be cashed may vary by location. Generally, most 7-Eleven kiosks will only cash a check if its amount does not exceed $1,500.

How Much Does 7-Eleven Charge to Cash a Check?

The 7-Eleven check cashing fees you’ll be responsible for may vary by store. Generally, the fee is 0.99% of the total value of the check. However, you should check the terms and conditions of your specific store.

When you use your Transact card, you may also be charged specific fees, which are provided in the terms and conditions of the card. For example, if you withdraw money from your account using an ATM that is not at a 7-Eleven, you will be charged $2.50. You’ll also be charged $0.50 for a balance inquiry if you choose to enroll in the “pay-as-you-go” plan.

7-Eleven Money Services Hours

In 2004, 7-Eleven stores partnered with Vcom so they could offer check cashing kiosks that are available 24/7. Not all 7-Eleven stores are equipped with these kiosks, so the service hours for check cashing may vary by location. Check with your local 7-Eleven to review check cashing hours before visiting.

How to Cash a Check at 7-Eleven

After reviewing 7-Eleven check cashing locations and finding one that’s convenient for you, you’ll need to review how to cash a check to complete the process successfully. First, it’s important to gather the information you’ll need to apply for your Transact card. To apply for this card, you’ll be required to provide:

  • Your name.
  • Your address.
  • Your date of birth.
  • Government-issued identification, such as a driver’s license.

Once your Transact card and account have been activated, you can take it and your eligible check to a 7-Eleven check cashing kiosk. Follow the check cashing prompts on the kiosk, which will require you to insert your Transact card, verify your information, and insert your check. Upon completion, the check-cashing machine will load the balance onto your Transact card, which can be used as a debit card or used to withdraw cash from the 7-Eleven ATM.
