A credit score of 765 is generally considered “Very Good,” according to the FICO scale. Very Good means you are in a special category that makes you favorable to lenders.

Lenders enjoy doing business with people whose credit scores are Very Good. A credit score of 765 usually means that there are plenty of loan options available to you and that the loan cost is very cheap.

That being said, there are still some things you can do to improve your credit score. Having a credit score higher than 765 means having more options to qualify for cards you need at a rate you want.

Why Your Credit Score Is 765

Many factors go into a credit score of 765. An individual with this score is likely to be abiding by all the proper rules that coincide with having a Very Good score.

Here are some of the possible reasons why your score is what it is:

1. You Don’t Have a High Balance on Your Card

Your credit utilization ratio is the percentage of available credit you are actively using. People who utilize more than 30% of their credit limit are likely to have low credit scores.

In this particular scenario, a person with a 765 score is likely to be either paying off all of the balance on time or never using the card for purchases that go beyond 30% of their credit limit. Either way, this person takes great care of their credit card balance.

2. There Are No Missed Payments

You are probably making all your payments on time. If this is the case, your credit score will not be negatively affected. However, if you’ve missed a payment, that could be the reason your score isn’t in the Exceptional range.

Check your credit score frequently to see if any missed-payment outliers are affecting your score.

3. You Apply for New Credit Only When Needed

It is possible to lose a few points on your credit score every time you apply for a new credit card or loan. The reason for this is that many credit applications are associated with a high risk that you will not pay them on time, resulting in a negative effect on your credit score.

The solution is to stop applying for new credit or apply less frequently. If you find yourself applying less frequently for new credit, it is a sign that your credit score will not be affected very much.

To make sure that it does not affect your score, you need to apply for new credit only in rare cases. This will secure your credit score and prevent any potential decline.

4. You Check Your Credit Score Regularly

People with high credit scores often check their credit reports to see if there is something out of the ordinary present. When you check your credit score regularly, you may find some mistakes.

Finding these mistakes early will allow you to dispute them without them affecting your credit score. Moreover, if you happen to have a low score, checking your credit score regularly will allow you to take measures to raise it.

What Can You Do with a 765 Credit Score?

With a credit score of 765, you should be able to qualify for most loans; however, you won’t receive the absolute best terms.

This is because, even though 765 is a Very Good score, it is not technically an Exceptional score. That being said, here is what a credit score of 765 can get you:

  • No-annual-fee credit card.
  • Big initial credit card bonus.
  • Credit card with 0% introductory financing.
  • No-foreign-fee credit card.
  • Airline/hotel credit card.

You may still not be qualified for every credit card or the best mortgage rate. While your credit score is considered Very Good, it is still not an Exceptional score that will allow you to get any card or mortgage rate.

How to Improve a 765 Credit Score

It can be difficult to improve a 765 credit score as this is already considered to be above average. That being said, here are some tips as to how to increase your credit score of 765.

1. Pay Down Existing Debt

Your credit utilization ratio accounts for 30% of your FICO score. By paying down your debt on time, you can utilize less than the maximum balance on your credit card.

By constantly putting down payments on time and utilizing only a small amount of your balance, you will be able to increase your credit score.

2. Make Your Payments on Time

The most important aspect of your credit score is on-time payments. Even a single missed payment can negatively impact your score. Look at all your outstanding bills and make sure to pay them on time or you will seriously hurt your credit score.

3. Check Credit Reports for Inaccuracies

Make sure you regularly check your credit report to see whether everything listed on it should be there. If you do not want to deal with it yourself, you can always ask credit repair companies to do the work for you. These companies are well-versed in knowing how to use resources to increase your given credit score.

4. Improving Your Credit Opens Up More Financial Opportunity

By working on improving your credit score even more, you will be able to utilize new opportunities presented to you by lenders. You will be allowed to apply for different types of loans with better interest rates and lower fees. Lenders will sometimes offer lower rates to those who have higher credit scores.
