SunTrust’s routing number is 061000104. All SunTrust bank locations use the same routing number.

What Is a Routing Number?

A bank routing number allows for the transfer of funds to and from a bank. You usually use a routing number in conjunction with an account number. The routing number defines the bank, and the account number identifies where to send the money once it arrives at the bank.

Some people first use a routing number when paying their taxes to the IRS. You need to provide your bank’s routing number and your account number to set up a direct payment.

Employers often offer a direct deposit payment to their employees. They will ask for your bank routing number and account number to set up this payment. Some companies also ask for a cancelled check to verify all the information. The advantage of a direct deposit is that you do not have to deal with paper checks. Moving money directly to the bank is more secure and more convenient for everyone involved.

You can also use your bank’s routing number to transfer money between banks, such as with a wire transfer or an automated clearing house (ACH) transfer.

Finally, when you pay a credit card bill or other monthly bill, you can set up an automatic withdrawal from your bank account. With this arrangement, your bill gets paid automatically every month, and you do not have to worry about it.

What Do the Digits in a Routing Number Mean?

All routing numbers consist of nine digits, and each bank has a unique routing number.

Routing numbers contain three pieces of information. The first four numbers define the bank’s federal banking district. All banks in the United States fall into one of 12 districts.

The second four numbers identify the specific bank, and the last digit provides confirmation.

Where Can You Find Your SunTrust Routing Number?

SunTrust lists its routing number on its website as well as on personal checks. If you have personal checks from SunTrust, you can find the routing number right now. It is the nine-digit number on the bottom of the check. It starts on the far left-hand side. Checks also have a second set of numbers, which is your account number. Account numbers are typically more than nine digits.
