However, there are several pieces of information you must include in your resume, no matter what role you’re applying to obtain. These sections are crucial to include so you have a better chance of getting past applicant tracking and resume scanning systems that many employers use.


When formatting your resume, always begin with a header. Use a style and font that’s unique to you but make sure it’s easy to read. Include your:

  • Full name.
  • Address.
  • Phone number.
  • Email address.

You can also include a link to your online portfolio if it relates directly to the position you’re applying for.


Your introduction is a way to catch the attention of the reader and prove you’re a good fit for the consulting position. Use this section to provide a career objective, qualifications summary, or professional profile. If you have consulting experience, use your introduction to relate your experience and skills to the specific position you’re applying for.

Without experience related to the industry, you can use your introduction to declare your career objective. Relate the skills you have to your specific career goals and show your motivation and plan for reaching these goals.


When considering a consulting position, think about the skills you possess. The skills that are important depend on the specific position you’re applying for. Generally, a consultant must be able to prove they have:

  • Relate your experiences and skills to the position: Review the job description and ensure you’re highlighting your unique skills and experiences that relate the duties you’d be responsible for in the role.
  • Use a cohesive theme: When you design your resume, it’s important to keep a congruent theme, including fonts and formatting, throughout the entire document.
