When considering your side gig options, you won’t want to leave out the possibility of getting paid to watch ads. While you may not generate enough money to quit your main job, taking a little bit of time out of your day to watch ads, fill out surveys, conduct web searches, and even play games can bring in a substantial secondary income.

These supplementary earnings can help pay rent, utilities, and assist with your next big purchase.

Getting paid to watch ads may seem too good to be true, and you may think that there is a large possibility of you getting scammed. However, if you know which sites are legitimate and backed by the Better Business Bureau, you will have peace of mind knowing that your time and efforts will be compensated properly.

Many companies will pay you to watch their advertisement videos, and you may earn rewards in a wide variety of ways. If you are looking to get paid for watching ads, consider the following businesses for a better understanding of how they will pay you and if you will get paid enough to support your financial needs.

Where Can You Watch Ads for Money?

There is an abundance of sites that claim they will pay you money to watch their ads. When first starting, you may be overwhelmed and not quite sure which company to give your attention to.

The following companies are legitimate and are a great place to begin your search. With a computer or a smartphone, you can quickly bring up their website, or download the respective apps to start making money to watch ads.

1. InboxDollars

InboxDollars is an online marketing company, and has paid over $59 million in cash rewards to its members for doing everyday online activities like reading emails, taking online surveys, playing games, and watching videos and TV. Brands come to this company for consumer input, and InboxDollars will recruit and pay you for these various online activities.

You’ll get $5 just for signing up, and most online surveys will pay from $0.50 to $5 — with some paying $20 or more. InboxDollars will pay you via PayPal or a written check. Other rewards include cash back for online shopping, various coupons, and gift cards.

2. Swagbucks

Swagbucks is a subsidiary of an internet and media company and has paid its members over $514,204,732. You can get paid and rewarded for taking online surveys, watching videos, taking daily polls, answering trivia, scanning barcodes, playing games, searching the Web, and shopping online.

You may earn Swagbucks (SB) points which can be redeemed for gift cards, or have cash transferred into a PayPal account. One hundred SB points will equal $1, and you will earn various SB points by performing the above online activities.

Answering a daily poll will earn you one point, attempting three online surveys (while completing one) will earn you 153 SB, and watching three short video clips about current events or entertainment will equal five SB. One member using Swagbucks regularly, but not every day, reports earning $547 in a year with minimal effort.

3. MyPoints

MyPoints provides direct marketing and online advertising services to a wide range of consumer products and services companies. MyPoints will pay you for shopping online, finding local deals, reading emails, taking surveys, watching videos, searching the web, playing games, referring friends, and more.

You will earn points by performing these online activities, and will be able to redeem them for gift cards from over 70 top retailers and restaurants, cash via PayPal or Visa prepaid card, or travel miles for United MileagePlus. Visit the MyPoints website for a breakdown of how the rewards system works.

4. Slidejoy

If you aren’t concerned with advertisements randomly popping up on your lock screen, consider using Slidejoy. This app engages your Android phone’s lock screen to present you with news and/or advertisements with content that is relevant to you, and pays you to view them.

It is undetermined how many ads they will send you to view, so compensation is unpredictable. However, the reward system uses “Carats,” which can be exchanged for cash via PayPal, donated, or turned into gift cards.

5. iRazoo

With iRazoo, you can earn points for taking surveys, completing offers, playing video games, downloading apps, and watching videos. You can redeem these points for gift cards to major retail stores, or turn them into PayPal cash.

For playing games, iRazoo will give you one point per minute — allowing 500 points per day. To turn these points into cash or a gift card, you must first learn 3,000 iRazoo points.

6. Nielson TV Ratings

The same organization that analyzes TV ratings is also interested in internet behavior. You can join the Nielsen Family by answering the registration questions, and installing the app, and then you’ll be on your way to earn rewards for using the internet just as you would normally do daily.

The Nielsen Computer and Mobile Panel offers multiple rewards, and gives away $10,000 each month.

Can You Earn Money by Watching Ads?

Though you won’t want to quit your day job, watching and completing other online activities can bring in enough money to help pay for many expenses.

While you may have to watch a significant amount of ads, this money can quickly start to rack up — especially if you complete other online activities. You may be bombarded with ads daily anyhow, so you might as well get paid to view them.

How Do You Get Paid?

Many websites that offer compensation for viewing ads will do so based on a points and/or rewards system. Your points can then be transferred into cash, check, PayPal cash, gift cards, or donated to a charity. While there are a variety of ways you can get paid from these sites, the most common are:

  • Watching video ads;
  • Playing games;
  • Completing online surveys;
  • Web searches;
  • Trivia questions;
  • Discovering deals.

How Much Money Can You Make by Watching Ads?

While compensation varies from site to site, it is not unreasonable to expect to make $5 to $20 a month (in cash and rewards).

While this may not seem like much, keep in mind that these online activities require minimal effort. Additionally, you may earn more money by setting aside the time to complete more online activities.
